Site Highlights

The University of Louisville (UofL) serves patient populations across Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and surrounding states. Located within regions known as the “Coronary Valley” and the “Stroke Belt,” Kentucky experiences high rates of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, stroke, and lung cancer. These health challenges are further influenced by factors such as lower educational attainment and higher prevalence of tobacco and alcohol use.

-
UofL’s patient population includes many who experience higher rates of chronic disease. Kentucky ranks among the highest in the nation for obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes, hypertension, and poverty, with pockets of Louisville Metro experiencing some of the most significant disease burdens in the state.

- This unique patient population positions the University of Louisville to lead impactful clinical and translational research, advancing health outcomes through engagement with populations who have traditionally been less likely to participate in clinical research.
